On Saturday 16th June 2018 at the Myer Mural Hall, we were lucky enough to have produced one of my most memorable events yet. Not only was it an evening to raise much needed funds, it was also a night of celebration for all of the hard work the team at TLC for Kids have done over the last 20 years.
TLC for Kids is an amazing charity that offers practical and immediate relief, support or distraction for any sick child and their family, referred by their healthcare provider. There are no waiting lists and most importantly no restrictive criteria. Over the last 20 years they have helped millions of children and their families and let me tell you, this is only the beginning.
Upon meeting Tim, the CEO and Founder and his partner in crime and TLC for Kids Executive Manager, Ana, I was swept off my feet at what these guys do. Hearing stories about different people they have met and some of the children that have come into their lives, you can’t help but feel incredibly grateful for what you have.
The evening started with guests greeted by a Chivas Regal cocktail and tasting station thanks to the team at Pernod Ricard. A magician roved through the crowed as guests sipped on champagne and enjoyed canapes.
When the time came for guests to find their seats, they were greeted by a room, hidden in the top of Myer, that is full of incredible history. History, that together with TLC for Kids, we were adding to.
Guests were taken on a journey throughout the night starting with a beautiful performance of ‘This Is Me’ from Adelaide Clark and students from Patrick Studios Australia. They watched clips that outlined some of the milestones in TLC for Kids 20-year history and helped raise funds through a raffle, a silent auction, live auction and pledges.
So many of TLC for Kids friends and supporters came together for a night that many will never forget. The evening was hosted by 3AW’s Justin Smith and the talented Brodie Young. We also enjoyed a performance from Louie Feltrin (The Robbie Williams Experience) and danced the night away to MC Matthew Charles, DJ Claire Elliot and Adelaide Clark.
The reality of what TLC for Kids does for families was brought to life by a beautiful, young girl, Elyssia. Elyssia’s parents, Emma and Adric, shared their story about how TLC for Kids have supported them since Elyssia was born prematurely with multiple medical complications. Elyssia, who is now an energetic 5 year old, stole the show by getting up on stage with almost every performer to show off her dance moves, singing and rapping skills and, of course, to thank everyone for coming.
In total we were able to help raise just over $100,000 for TLC for Kids. These funds will go towards not only helping children and families in our own backyard of Australia, but also to helping sick children and families in New Zealand.
As I said earlier, this is just the beginning for TLC for Kids. They are fighting and growing to help as many children and families as they can and we are so excited to be helping them take on the world.
